Basically, Inlays and Onlays are made from porcelain, composite resin, and even gold. This is used to replace metal fillings for our patients who want to have a more natural-looking smile.

Inlays are used to treat teeth that have decay or damage on the top surface. Here at Divine Smiles, we can get the Inlays done in just two visits. For the first visit, an impression of the tooth will be taken and a temporary inlay will be placed. The impression will be sent to the dental lab where your permanent inlay will be made according to your tooth’s specification. During the second appointment, the temporary inlay will be removed and will be replaced by the permanent inlay.

On the other hand, Onlays are used to treat decay that extends to one or more of the cusps or the top projections of the tooth. Placed in the same manner as the inlays where impressions are first taken and temporary onlay will be placed over the tooth, the procedure will also usually take two appointments with us.

The great thing about Inlays and Onlays is that it is created from a tooth colored material. This makes them undetectable to the naked eye and it is also very conservative type of treatment as it only requires minimal removal of tooth surface.
